The Ottawa Family Cinema is happy to announce it is moving to the Rideau Hub (Formerly Rideau High School) at 815 St-Laurent Blvd.
After an extensive search to find a suitable location (when the OCSB refused to renew our auditorium rental agreement) we were contacted by management at Rideau who offered us their theatre plus the required storage rooms etc., to continue with our shows for the community.
We are very excited and as soon as we can have access to both Notre Dame and Rideau we can start the difficult and expensive task of moving. We will share more information and pictures in the next few weeks as they become available.
Because of the current covid-19 crisis and based on guidance from Ottawa public health and government directives, the Ottawa Family Cinema is closed until further notice. We will re-open when we are told that it is safe to do so. If you have any tickets or online bookings they will all be valid for shows when we re-open. We hope you and your family stay safe during these uncertain times and appreciate your understanding and look forward to welcoming you back soon at the OFC. God bless, stay healthy and be safe.
TO THE OTTAWA COMMUNITY
It is with heavy hearts that we share some news with you. After over 43 years of serving the Ottawa community, the Ottawa Family Cinema (OFC) will not be able to operate at Notre Dame High School. We have called Notre Dame our home since the school opened in 1994. The Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) is not simply terminating a rental agreement they are dissolving a partnership and we are so disappointed and saddened by this decision.
We received a letter from the OCSB that the school board, after over 28 years in partnership, (that started when the Catholic board took over Fisher Park Public school in the early 1990s), with the Ottawa Family Cinema, it will no longer be renewing the cinema’s lease of the auditorium and support spaces. We worked hard to resolve the issues outlined by the OCSB but they were not receptive to any solutions we proposed.
We are a not for profit and registered charity in operation for over 43 years. We have raised funds for CHEO, The Children’s Wish Foundation, The Ottawa Food Bank, Girl Guides, Scouts, womens’ shelters, schools and many other community groups and charities. The Cinema has helped to raise approximately 2 million dollars for community organizations through fundraising shows, gifts in kind and cash donations to community organizations/charities and is run solely by volunteers from the community.
As we deal with this challenge head on, as well as its financial implications, we felt it important to notify our cinema community - loyal members, stakeholders and the public in general, so that you are aware of this challenge we face. We need to find a new home to continue our service to the community.
If you would like to help, share your opinions, email and/or sign an online petition to find us a new location please do so.
Thanks for your support, God bless,
The Ottawa Family Cinema Foundation
