What is so special about the cinema?

The cinema is a non-profit registered charity, all proceeds beyond operating costs are given back to the community. In addition to a feature film there are door-prizes, previews, and a cartoon with free gifts for children at selected shows.

The Cinema also has three movie parties per season. One at Hallowe'en, one at Christmas, and one in the spring for our birthday. This means extra fun for everyone... Hallowe'en costume contest, Santa Claus, birthday cake, the Movie Game Show, Sing-a-longs, free gifts, and much, much more are all part of the fun.

What is the seating capacity of the theater?

The theatre holds approximately 500 people.

So how do you keep your prices so low?

All Cinema staff are volunteers.

The Cinema is a not-for-profit organization. This means all money raised through ticket and concession sales are returned to the community to schools, churches and other charities through the Family Movie Trust Fund or used for direct use in the Cinema in operating and equipment upgrades, door-prizes, give-aways etc. All cinema staff and management are volunteers.

For some shows, all the proceeds are donated to a particular charity such as CHEO or the Red Cross.

Is the Cinema wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the Cinema is wheelchair accessible.

Do you take movie requests?

We do take requests for movies however it is not always possible to fill the requests depending on many factors including availability, costs etc. In the case of most films when the movie becomes available on video it is difficult to get folks out of their homes to see it in the cinema.

We would need approximately 120 people in order to cover the costs of one showing.

Do you have facilities for private screenings?

Unfortunately, we do not hold private screenings at the cinema. You could try the Mayfair theatre on Bank Street in Ottawa for this. However, feel free to contact us if you have a proposal in mind or would like to raise funds for a charitable or non-profit group. We would be happy to help out if possible.

Accounts: What changes were made during the Summer 2018?

Previously there were two types of accounts: "member accounts" and "volunteer accounts". Now there is one type of account, which may have 1 or more membership or volunteer linked to it. Additionally, members and volunteer information can be linked to multiple accounts. This change allows:

  • The same account to be used by a member who is also a volunteer.
  • Parents can have separate login/password but both be able to purchase tickets on the same membership. Confirmation e-mails are sent to to both e-mail addresses associated to the membership when making purchases.
  • The same account may be used by a member who has both a personal membership and an organizational membership. (eg a Girl Guide leader with a personal membership and a unit membership).
  • A volunteer can administer a volunteer profile on behalf of another volunteer. (eg for someone without regular internet access)
  • Combinations of above.
  • If you just want to subscribe to our mailing lists you need not be either a member or a volunteer.

Additionally every account had a login which was different from the e-mail address associated. The separate login has been removed, and e-mail address is used as the login.

Lastly, password have all been reset so a new password must be chosen. There are now stricter rules about what what is considered a valid password. Passwords are stored in an encrypted fashion so they cannot be decrypted. Additionally you can not bother to set a password on your account and simply request a link be sent your e-mail address when you want to login.

Accounts: My e-mail address has changed and I cannot login to my old account. How to access my membership?

Your membership is linked to your e-mail address. Please contact us and provide your name/address/phone number and we will update the membership to use your new e-mail address which will allow you to see your membership.

Accounts: I paid for a membership but I cannot see it in my account?

If you registered for a membership at the cinema, the volunteer taking your information may not have entered your e-mail address, or it was mis-typed. Please contact us and provide your name/address/phone number and we will update the membership to use your new e-mail address which will allow you to see your membership.

Accounts: How to change my e-mail address?

Currently there is no way to change your account e-mail address. As a workaround, you can register for an new account, then delete the old one.

  1. Register for a new account with your new e-mail address.
  2. Login to your old account.
  3. Edit the membership details to specify your new e-mail address.
  4. Login to your new account and make sure you can see the membership.
  5. Login to your old account and delete it.

Accounts: Can mulitple people buy tickets on the same membership?

Memberships are linked to accounts via their e-mail address. A membership can be linked to up to 2 accounts. This is way both parents (or parent and grandparent) can use the same family membership without having to share account logins. To configure this, the account that has access to the membership can add a second e-mail address to the membership contact information. The membership is now available to both accounts.
